Pharmacogenomics (PGx) is the study of how a person's DNA affects their response to medications.

Over 100 medications will be tested for in the PGx test. You will know if, because of your DNA, there is a minimal, moderate, or major gene-drug interaction. Some drugs may have a limited pharmacogenomic impact while other drugs are currently under review by the lab.

Book your first session.
If the pharmacist believes that PGx testing can help you, you will have the opportunity to book your first of two sessions. This session can be done in person or over Zoom. During the appointment, we will review your Health History Form and discuss if your current or past medications have any genetic associations. We'll talk about what you can expect to learn from a pharmacogenomics test, the estimated cost of the test, and how to take your DNA sample.

Collect Your DNA Sample
After the first session, we will send your information to the lab and the lab will mail the test kit to your home. If you choose to meet in person, we can take your sample at the end of the first session.
If a test kit is mailed to your home, take your sample as soon as possible. Do not eat, drink (including water), chew gum or smoke for 30 minutes prior to taking your sample. Follow the instructions that are provided in your kit. Go to OneOme's website to activate your sample. Mail your sample back to the lab by using the packaging and pre-paid label provided in the kit. The sooner you mail your kit back, the sooner you will have your results. If there is a cost for the kit, the lab will reach out to you directly to collect payment.

Attend Second Session
Once your results are ready, you will receive an email to book your final session. We will discuss your results and how they affect your current, past, and future medications. If your current medication(s) should be changed based on your results, I will let you and your provider(s) know. You will also receive a document within one week of our appointment highlighting what we talked about.
